Restaurant review: Pho’ King Noodles

Pho' King Noodles: Authentic Vietnamese Restaurant!

Pho' King Noodle: Authentic Vietnamese Restaurant!

Wassup foodies, it’s been awhile! I may be slowing down with the videos for the next while, but that doesn’t mean I’ll be slowing down with the ‘food eating’. What i mean is, I can’t stop eating, so why not review the interesting food or restaurants that I go to? Although, the ‘purse’ is tighter these days, I found a way to go with some friends to a Vietnamese restaurant tonight.

The restaurant is called Pho King Noodles…ya I know what yer thinking, but if you were to pronounce it in the correct Vietnamese english accent, it would sound more like, “Ferh – King Noodles”. O.k. that doesn’t help much, however, I assure you that the owners were traditional Vietnamese (mom and pop restaurant) so it was authentic Vietnamese. I must say I tried to find an online translation of “Pho King”, but it came out with the exact same words, so no help there (If any of our viewers speak or write Vietnamese…please help and translate for us!).

Anyway, back to the important thing, the food. My friends both ordered a beef noodle soup and a side order of spring rolls (usually a safe bet), however they seemed to remark that it was alright, but not awesome. The soup noodles came in healthy portions, but one friend remarked that there were black bits that were unhygienic to his eating health (sort of like charcoal bits/peppers). After he got that out, and ate up his noodle soup, however, I noticed that both friends did not touch much soup base, only the noodles and meat. That’s not a good sign.

On the other hand, the spring rolls were delicious! They had a blend of vegetables, meat, and a fried outer shell. I would this dish again because it’s different than a Chinese spring roll, and a little more shall we say…exotic? Next, I ordered a rice dish with BBQ chicken and some vegetables (a safe dish as well). The thing is, I wasn’t in a noodle soup mood, so I got the rice, which was fine. The BBQ chicken was cooked in a Vietnamese asian style, as it was filleted, but they made a sauce that created a delicious crispy shell to the chicken. It was cut into strips and served in a plate with the rice. Simple, but easy on the palate. I enjoyed it thoroughly and had no troubles with it whatsoever! So, all in all, the food was pretty decent!

The service, on the other hand, was a little underwhelming. Considering we were one of only two tables of customers, the fact that the server forgot my water drink, I found perplexing. As well, the server did not come back to check on our table, thus we had no re-fills on tea (which is customary in any Asian restaurant). The ambiance was pretty chill and quiet, so it was a good place for conversations!

The price as Vietnamese restaurants or most any Asian restaurants go, was quite good. $25 after tax for three men is very affordable, however, both the guys wanted to go to Arby’s drive thru afterwards (which I went through the drive thru the wrong direction…it was dark, I’m a little directionally challenged).

I guess a good question to ask myself is this: Would I go to this restaurant again? Yes, if I go with guys, but I probably wouldn’t take a date there (not if you want to impress her). Also, I think based on my friends choices, I would avoid the Pho’ (noodle soups). Miscellaneous fact: They had a large screen T.V. showing UFC fights (which i was facing yay!). If I were to rate this restaurant out of 5 stars, I would give it 3 at best. The food was fine, but the everything else, or “packaging or trimmings” that you’ve come to expect at most other restaurants, I found lacking a little. Final thoughts, it was fun night to celebrate my B-day with some buddies (A and B), and the company is always what makes it memorable over any food!

P.S. Stay tuned here at Robscooking.com! We have a lot of undeveloped footage, and we’ll try to get to it as soon as we can. Oh and look for Mousecapades III coming soon, as I saw the final edit by Robby (worth the wait!)
