Jason Blog: A Great Workout…Bollywood Style!!!

A couple days ago I was in the process of recovering from insomnia. Yes, I actually hadn’t slept for 2 straight days. Anyway, after lying in bed for a long time, I decided to go and watch some T.V. to maybe tire me out. I turned on the television and was watching UFC fighting and Deadliest Warrior (on Spike). Deadliest warrior was new to me, as the premise revolves around taking two separate warriors/fighters from different time periods and having them simulate the victor. Before they do that, they must run numerous real life tests with experts of that type of warrior on their long range, mid range, hand to hand, and special weapons. They would rate these weapons in comparison with the other, to see which person was deadlier. So, they chose Ninja vs. Spartan Warrior, and it was a fun watch. The point was that I wasn’t really getting sleepy until…I woke up!

Yes, I fell asleep on the couch, c’mon who hasn’t done that? Anyway, it was now between 5 – 6 am in the morning. I was really tired and groggy, until I realized the T.V. was still on. Since it was satellite T.V., the channel was set to “Viva” network. Apparently, “Viva” is a lifestyle, health, cooking channel aimed at Baby Boomer women (I fact checked that a little while ago). Of course I didn’t know that at time, I just saw that there was a workout show starting, and I thought it kinda looked fun!

The show is called “Bollywood Workout with Rohan Da Silva”, and it is definitely entertaining! The instructor Rohan, really knows what he’s doing, and his instructions are crystal clear easy to follow. The back up dancers do a nice job following his lead and smiling big. So for the first 10 minutes, I just watched the program while trying to figure out why I thought it was so cool (Yes, I saw Slumdog Millionaire and I loved it!).

After about 10 minutes, I thought, “This looks so easy and fun, why don’t I give a try, nobodies watching me.” So, I got off the couch (literally), and starting bouncing and moving to the rhythms of the music, while listening to Rohan’s expert instruction. I had a blast! It was so much fun, and moves are simple enough to catch on pretty quick. I know that Bollywood and anything India is becoming more popular with the Slumdog Millionaire Oscar win, but their dances don’t need an Oscar for us to realize how good it is.

So, if you have the Viva channel on satelite T.V. (I think it was channel 526), than set your timer to….check the T.V. guide I don’t remember what exact time it was. I guess my peeve with most fitness and workout shows are that they are boring to watch, healthy to do. Yet, in this case, Rohan’s show is both fun to watch (high energy) and enjoyable to do. I looked on the internet for Rohan’s fitness shows and I found only a couple samples, so I’ll leave you with them. Take care, and check it out!
