Upon it’s release in 1885 Coca-Cola contained trace amounts of cocaine. A natural by-product of the coca leaf and kola nuts that were the basis for the recipe, it is undeniable that some amount of the drug was present in early formulas. By 1902 the amount of cocaine was approximately 1/400th of a grain per oz of syrop. by 1929, it was completely removed.
